Misal Pav is a vibrant meal consisting of a spicy sprouted bean curry topped with crunchy Farsan, crisp red onions, and fresh cilantro that is served with lightly buttered Pav or dinner rolls.
Ingredients
- Pav, as required
- 2 cup moth beans / matki
- 2 inch ginger, roughly chopped
- 1.5 onion, finely chopped
- 2 clove garlic
- 1/4 cup dry coconut
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon kashmiri red chilli pwoder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- A small piece jaggery
- 2 cup farsan / mixture
- Coriander leaves,, finely chopped
- Lemon wedges
- Salt, as per taste
- Water, as required
- Oil, as required
Instructions
- In a large kadai, heat 3 tablespoon oil.
- Splutter mustard jeera and few curry leaves.
- Add turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala.
- Saute on low flame till spices turn aromatic. Now add in prepared masala paste and saute well.
- Cook till the oil is released from masala paste.
- Add in cooked matki, small piece jaggery and ½ teaspoon salt. Mix very well.
- Add 5 cup water and adjust consistency. Cover and boil for 10 minutes or till misal is cooked completely.
- Once cooked, oil starts to float indicating misal is ready.
- Take matki usal in a serving dish and add some farsan over it.
- Top with chopped onions and coriander leaves.
- Serve misal with pav and lemon wedges.
