Onion Bhaji Recipe | Breakfast Care

Baked Onion Bhaji is a perfect snack and starter. It is a healthy alternative to the traditional fried onion bhajis.

  • 4 onions
  • 1.5 cups gram flour
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2.5 cm ginger 
  • 1/4 teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 3/4 ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • A handful of coriander leaves, finely chopped

  • Peel and finely slice the onions into 3cm pieces.

  • In a bowl, place onion and sprinkle with the salt. Mix well with hands.

  • Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes or up to 3 hours.

  • In a bowl, squeeze the onions to release the water into the bowl.

  • In the same bowl, add the remaining ingredients and stir well.

  • Shift the gram flour over the onion mixture and mix well.

  • Heat the oven to 200°C.

  • Line a baking tray with a sheet of baking paper.

  • Make 12-15 equal-sized onion balls.

  • Place them on the baking paper. 

  • Bake until browned or for 30-40 minutes.

  • Serve hot.
