Jackfruit Idli Recipe | Breakfast Care

Jackfruit Idli aka halasina hannina kadubu, pelata gatti/gidde, ponsa muddo, panasa idli is a tasty, famous and delicious breakfast recipe made of ripe jackfruit. These are mostly made in South Canara.

  • 2 jackfruit, ripe
  • 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup coconut, grated
  • 1/2 cup jaggery
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder 
  • Ghee
  • A pinch of salt

  1. Peel, deseed and chop jackfruit roughly.
  2. Combine jackfruit pieces, jaggery, grated coconut, and cardamom in a mixer.
  3. Form a fine paste along with little water. 
  4. In a bowl, transfer the jackfruit puree. Add rice and salt. Mix well together.
  5. Allow the batter to sit for 10-20 minutes.
  6. Heat water in an Idli steamer.
  7. Grease idli moulds with ghee.
  8. Pour the batter into the moulds. 
  9. Steam idlis until toothpick comes clean when inserted in the centre or for 15 minutes.
  10. Cool the steamer for a while.
  11. Remove idlis from moulds using a spoon or a knife once cool down a bit.
  12. Serve immediately.
