Arhar Dal/ Toor Daal Recipe | Breakfast Care

Arhar Dal, aka Toor Dal is an easy to make recipe. It is a popular North Indian dish which you can make anytime. It tastes delicious. It is beneficial for health as it is rich in folic acid, protein and fibre. 

  • 1 cup arhar dal
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 2 red chilli
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • A handful of coriander leaves, chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • Salt, as per taste

  • Wash the dal well.
  • In a bowl of water, soak it for 30 minutes.
  • Drain the water and add the dal and chopped tomatoes in a pressure cooker.
  • Add water, turmeric powder and salt. Cook the dal on low heat till 2 whistles.
  • Remove the cooker from heat and let the pressure release.
  • Open the cooker and whisk well using a wire whisk.
  • Add lemon juice and mix well.
  • Heat ghee in a pan for tempering.
  • Add garlic and fry until browned. Add cumin seeds and red chilli. Let them crackle for a few seconds.
  • Switch off the heat and add red chilli powder in the ghee.
  • Pour the tempering over the dal and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander.
  • Serve hot immediately.
  • Enjoy!
