Arhar Dal, aka Toor Dal is an easy to make recipe. It is a popular North Indian dish which you can make anytime. It tastes delicious. It is beneficial for health as it is rich in folic acid, protein and fibre.
Ingredients
- 1 cup arhar dal
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 2 red chilli
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon kashmiri red chilli powder
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- A handful of coriander leaves, chopped
- 4 cups water
- Salt, as per taste
Instructions
- Wash the dal well.
- In a bowl of water, soak it for 30 minutes.
- Drain the water and add the dal and chopped tomatoes in a pressure cooker.
- Add water, turmeric powder and salt. Cook the dal on low heat till 2 whistles.
- Remove the cooker from heat and let the pressure release.
- Open the cooker and whisk well using a wire whisk.
- Add lemon juice and mix well.
- Heat ghee in a pan for tempering.
- Add garlic and fry until browned. Add cumin seeds and red chilli. Let them crackle for a few seconds.
- Switch off the heat and add red chilli powder in the ghee.
- Pour the tempering over the dal and mix well.
- Garnish with chopped coriander.
- Serve hot immediately.
