Polish Potato Pancakes/ Placki Ziemniaczane Recipe | Breakfast Care

Polish potato pancakes are one of the most delicious comfort food of Poland. These are crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside and are hard to resist.
This is one of the best breakfast of Polish people, so they often serve them as a main meal, with a simple mushroom sauce or sour cream and a sprinkle of sugar.

  • 34 lbs  firm potato, peeled
  • 1  large sweet onion, finely grated
  • 1  garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1  large  egg yolk, lightly beaten
  • 2  tablespoons flour
  • 34 teaspoon salt, as per taste
  • 1  pinch pepper
  • 1  tablespoon  fresh parsley, minced
  • 1  large  egg white
  •  vegetable oil

  1. Peel potatoes and onions. Grate them using "small" holes.
  2. Pour the grated mass onto a strainer and gently press. Keep the remaining water.
  3. Mix potato/onion mash with eggs and flour. Add minced garlic.
  4. Take the container with excess water (from draining the potatoes), remove the liquid gently, leaving potato starch at the bottom. Add that starch into our potato pancake mass.
  5. Add cream, season with salt and pepper and fry on both sides until golden.
  6. Serve immediately with sour cream or natural yoghurt.
  7. Enjoy!

1. Use floury potato, not salad potatoes.
2. Add a little drizzle of lemon juice into the potato mixture to prevent it becoming darker.
3. Best serve immediately.
