Khaman Dhokla Recipe | Breakfast Care

Khaman Dhokla is a popular Gujarati cuisine. It’s one of the best breakfast options to have as its light and fills your stomach easily. 

• 2 cups gram flour/besan
• 1 cup yoghurt, beaten
• 1 tsp soda bicarbonate
• 1 TSP lime juice
• 1/2 tsp, turmeric powder
• 1 tsp mustard seeds
• 10-15 curry leaves
• 4 green chilli, cut in halves and slit lengthwise
• A handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped
• 1 tbsp sugar
• 2 tbsp oil
• 3/4 cup water, warm
• Salt, as per taste


1. In a bowl, add gram flour, yoghurt, one cup of warm water and mix well.

2. Add salt and mix again.Leave it for 3-4 hours to get fermented.

3. When  mixture has fermented, add turmeric powder and mix. Heat the steamer. Grease a thali.

4. In a small bowl, add lime juice, soda bicarbonate, oil and mix.Add it to the batter and whisk briskly.

5. Pour batter into the greased thali and place it in the steamer.

6. Cover with the lid and steam for 20 minutes or until gets fluffy.

7. Remove from the heat and let down to cool.

 8. Transfer to the serving plate and cut into squares.

9. Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, salt, sugar and water. When the seeds begin to crackle, remove and pour over the dhoklas.

10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve. 

11. Enjoy! 


1. You can also add semolina ( rava/sooji) to the batter.
2. You can top with grated coconut.
