Apple Pie Recipe | Breakfast Care

An apple pie is a pie in which the principal filling ingredient is apple. It is often served with whipped cream, ice cream, or cheddar cheese. It is generally double-crusted, with pastry both above and below the filling.

  • 6-7 cups apples peeled and sliced
  • tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 egg white
  • 1-2 teaspoons sugar
  • 10 tablespoon iced water
  • Scoops of vanilla ice cream

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • In a large bowl, combine all filling ingredients and toss well.
  • Line a 9" pie plate with pastry dough and fill with apple filling.
  • Roll out top crust, place overtop of the pie. Seal edges and remove any excess dough.
  • Beat egg white and 2 teaspoons water. Cut 4-5 slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Brush with egg mixture and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, reduce heat to 375°F and bake an additional 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
  • Top with vanilla ice cream and serve hot.
  • Enjoy!

The flour tossed with the fresh apples turns their juices into a thickened, spiced sauce during baking. Mix it with the sugar and spices before tossing the mixture with the apples.
